Light-headedness is the unpleasant sensation of dizziness or the feeling that one may be about to faint

In some cases, people feel as though their head is weightless and often that the room is “spinning” or moving (vertigo).

Staying upright depends on the brain processing a variety of information from the eyes, the nervous system and the inner ears.  However, if the messages from all of these location are contradictory, then the brain can’t process the messages, causing dizziness and loss of balance.

Light-headedness can be simply a sign of a temporary shortage of blood or oxygen to the brain resulting from a drop in blood pressure.

Loss of blood to the brain – See light headedness and dizziness.

During the aura phase of a migraine – see headaches
