When you consider that someone who is so anxious it brings them to the point of panic, then it’s not too great a step to realise that they tend towards ‘no hope’ thinking.

If someone no longer has the will to fight and their problems seem so great that they can’t see a way to flee from them, it may seem that there is only one way out and that’s death.

It’s that feeling of no hope that results in the impending sense of death, as at that moment dying seems to be the only escape.
