Medications you can take for anxiety disorders

Medication can be used in treating anxiety disorders.  It is often used in combination with other types of therapy, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy.

Treatment starts with having an open and honest discussion with your physician which is then followed by ongoing evaluation and monitoring.

Obviously, medications can be quite effective in treating the symptoms of anxiety disorders, such as worry, panic attacks, insomnia and difficulty concentrating.  However it should be noted that they do have significant limitations:

Firstly, medications can only really be used to help you overcome the symptoms of an anxiety problem, but using them may not resolve all of the symptoms.

In order to get complete remission, most people will need to make important changes in their life.

Many people also benefit from individual or group psychotherapy treatment.

Secondly, for the medications to work you must follow the explicit instructions of your physician.

Thirdly, A cognitive approach is often a better long term solution with no side effects either
